Agile Design Methods for Mechatronics System Integration

Matthieu Bricogne
Benoît Eynard

Abstract

The multi-disciplinary nature of mechatronics product significantly increases complexity of the development process. In this paper, the benefits of agile design methods are presented for multi-disciplinary system integration. After describing a model illustrating the relation between design state, decision making and multi-domain system integration, the conventional mechatronics system design process is illustrated. The weakness of “project planned” [1] management methods and their consequences on system integration are then pointed out. Finally, a framework to provide the necessary design and decision information is proposed to make agile design methods usage possible in this context.
