%X Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been employed in the public sector to improve efficiency and interoperability of information systems. Despite their daily use in the public sector, the concepts of Enterprise Architecture and efficiency are ambiguous and lack commonly accepted definitions. The benefits and outcomes of using EA in the public sector have been studied with mixed results. This study examined the use of EA in the Finnish basic education system using critical discourse analysis (CDA). The research revealed how the role and rationale of EA is constructed in the speech of public sector officials. Three orders of discourse, each having its own views on EA, were found. While there were commonly accepted functions for EA, there were also areas where the concepts were not mutually understood or accepted.
