New envisioned applications and trends in system design increase this need. Several of these trends, e.g. function integration, concurrency, energy awareness, networking and their consequences for verification are considered in this article. It is described that, already in the past, verification was made possible only due to rules restricting the design and it is argued that even more so in the future the constructive influence on the design of hardware and software will be a necessary condition to keep the verification task tractable. %G English %2 https://inria.hal.science/hal-01055377/document %2 https://inria.hal.science/hal-01055377/file/main.pdf %L hal-01055377 %U https://inria.hal.science/hal-01055377 %~ IFIP-LNCS %~ IFIP %~ IFIP-AICT %~ IFIP-LNCS-6399 %~ IFIP-TC %~ IFIP-TC10 %~ IFIP-2010 %~ IFIP-SEUS %~ IFIP-WG10-2
