Software Architecture Modeling and Evaluation Based on Stochastic Activity Networks

Abstract

Quantitative and integrated evaluation of software quality attributes at the architectural design stage provides a sound basis for making objective decisions for design trade-offs and developing a high quality software. In this paper we introduce a formal method for modeling software architectures and evaluationg their quality attributes quantitatively and in a unified manner. This method is based on stochastic activity networks (SANs) and the quality attributes considered include security, dependability and performance.
