Computer-Based Large-Scale Assessments in Germany

Abstract

In nearly all countries, technological changes in the field of digital media have raised great interest in procedures for testing students’ performance by means of computer-based assessment. For extensive international tests (large-scale assessments) such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) or Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study(TIMSS), pilot studies with computer-based assessment were first carried out. In the context of national education systems, the question of feasibility plays a crucial role. Considering the framework conditions in Germany, scenarios for a potential nation-wide roll-out have been developed. Based on this, we evaluated the feasibility of technical and organizational factors.
